Three years after the experimental COVID-delayed Euro 2020 that crisscrossed half of Europe, Euro 2024 takes the championship back to a single country: Germany. Running from June 14 to July 14, it’s set to be the first Euros hosted by a unified Germany and the second major footballing tournament following the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Interestingly, the defending European champions are Italy, who won that World Cup in Germany. Will they be able to reconjure that magic and hold onto the trophy? Only one team—Spain—has ever won back-to-back European Championships. If Italy do manage it, they will be tied with Spain and Germany, both of whom have three European trophies to their name.

With the tournament kicking off in a week, the teams have announced their final squads. From France’s Kylian Mbappé to Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, all the big players are going to show up at Euro 2024. But who are they facing? Who else is playing? And what’s the schedule like?

Euro 2024 groups and teams

The 24 teams at Euro 2024 have been divided into six groups as follows.

Group A: Germany, Scotland, Hungary, Switzerland

Group B: Spain, Croatia, Italy, Albania

Group C: Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, England

Group D: Netherlands, France, Poland, Austria

Group E: Ukraine, Slovakia, Belgium, Romania

Group F: Portugal, Czechia, Georgia, Turkey

Georgia make their European Championship debut at Euro 2024, having beaten Greece in the play-off to book their spot. They find themselves in the same group as Portugal, who won all 10 of their qualifying matches and finished with a +34 goal difference.

Meanwhile, Serbia and Slovenia are returning to the competition for the first time in 24 years. They are in the same group—alongside Denmark and England, who met in the Euro 2020 semi-finals.

Group B is being seen as the group of death, with defending champions Italy, 2022 FIFA World Cup bronze medal winners Croatia, and reformed heavyweights Spain in the mix. Poor Albania, for whom this is just the second major tournament.

Euro 2024 dates, schedule, and fixtures

Host nation Germany kick off the Euro 2024 group stage on June 14 in Munich. Each team will play a total of three group-stage fixtures. With six matches in every group—and 36 overall, given the six groups—the group stage will run from June 14 to June 26. Matches will be held at 3 pm, 6 pm, or 9 pm Central European Summer Time (CEST).

The top two teams in each group will directly qualify for the Euro 2024 knockouts. They will be joined by the best four third-placed teams (of the six in total). These 16 teams will naturally contest the Round of 16 which runs from June 29 to July 2. Matches will take place at 6 pm or 9 pm CEST.

That leads us into the Euro 2024 quarterfinals on July 5 and July 6. Those fixtures will also take place at 6 pm or 9 pm CEST. Then, of course, we have the semi-finals on July 9 and July 10—both at 9 pm CEST—in Munich and Dortmund, respectively. And that leaves the Euro 2024 final at 9 pm CEST on July 14 in Berlin.
