It’s time. The Euro 2024 group stages are done and the first knockout stage—Round of 16—has arrived. Italy and Switzerland will get us going on Saturday evening at the famous Olympiastadion in Berlin in the first Euro 2024 Round of 16 fixture. The Swiss are arguably the better positioned coming into this game, having put the hosts Germany to the sword for a good chunk of their match. It took a last-gasp equaliser from Niclas Füllkrug to save the German’s blushes. Speaking of last gasp, Italy are still at Euro 2024 thanks to a stunning curler at the death by Mattia Zaccagni. The defending champions came oh so very close to going out. Can the Italians channel their (not-that-old) forefathers who won the FIFA World Cup at this venue in 2006? Or will the Swiss—who took out France at this stage at Euro 2020—land another major European victim in the Round of 16?
