Spoilers ahead for episode 5 of The Rings of Power season 2.
More rings! After ignoring them for an entire episode, The Rings of Power returned to Eregion to show us the seven rings for dwarves. King Durin III immediately put his to use—following what the ring told him, he instructed his men in Khazad-dûm to dig in a certain spot. When they refused to obey, he did it himself. And voilà, they have access to sunlight again. While Durin called emissaries of the other dwarven kingdoms and offered them the rings at a heavy price, Disa discovered a cause for concern in what sounded like a giant creature under the mountain. The Lord of the Rings fans likely know where this is going. Durin IV communicated it and tried to reason with his father but the King won’t listen.
Durin IV took his concerns to Celebrimbor in Eregion and pushed him to think more about Annatar, adding to existing worries. Having just delivered the seven rings, Sauron/Annatar had already begun pushing for the next stage of his plan. Celebrimbor remained hesitant for much of episode 5—believing the risk of corruption to be too great and worried they were overextending—and even confronted Annatar after he met Durin. But the master manipulator found a way to turn it on the elf, claiming he brought deceit into the process by lying to the High King. Now, either they confess or they plunge on. Sauron’s gambit worked and following Mirdania’s accident—in which she put on a prototype ring that rendered her invisible and gave her terrifying visions—Celebrimbor came aboard Sauron’s plan to make nine rings for men.
The Rings of Power season 2 review: from pure torture to wild ambition
The Lord of the Rings series delivers bigger action and a less puzzle-oriented plot but also makes a few calamitous filmmaking errors.
Episode 5 also had room for Númenor, where Pharazôn tasked his son Kemen to prove himself as he dreamt of a glorious future. Elendil tried to convince the deposed Queen Míriel that they could put things right but she believes Pharazôn’s ascension is part of the plan to save Númenor from its downfall. You know, the downfall she kept seeing in the palantir (that led to her own downfall). Kemen first pushed Míriel loyalists to give up their naval positions and then took it too far in putting down the Faithful as he ended up stabbing and killing Valandil. Will Pharazôn take kindly to his son’s actions?
The episode ended with the orc army on the march—no doubt towards Eregion—with Adar promising an enraged Galadriel that they share a common enemy. With that, here are the release times for The Rings of Power season 2 episode 6.
