The Euros isn’t the only football tournament this summer. The 2024 Copa America starts Thursday, June 20 at the 71,000-seater Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Why is a tournament for South American nations being held in the US? Well, it’s not even the first time—the United States also hosted the 2016 edition. They even took part, alongside five other teams from North and Central America. That is once again the case. The likes of Canada and Mexico are competing at Copa America 2024 next to Brazil and Argentina. Speaking of Lionel Messi’s team, it’s Argentina, not the hosts US, who kick off the tournament on Thursday against Canada.

Argentina are also the defending champions as well as the world champions, having won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. With Messi at the helm, they are considered favourites too. Though I’m sure Brazil will have something to say about that. A total of 16 teams—10 from South America, and six from North and Central America—will play a total of 32 matches as they compete for the 2024 Copa America. The final is slated for Sunday, July 14. (Incidentally, that’s the same day as the Euro 2024 final a continent away.)

Before the opening match between Argentina and Canada, there’ll be an opening ceremony. What time is the inauguration of the 2024 Copa America? It starts at 7 pm ET, an hour before kick-off. Argentina’s fixtures—with Messi—will also be on Telefe (free-to-air) and TyC Sports (pay TV) in Argentina.

Colombia’s matches will also be broadcast on free-to-air Caracol and RCN channels in Colombia.

In Peru, you can watch the opening match and the home country’s matches for free on América TV’s tvGO platform.

In Chile, you can watch the opening match and Chile’s games with Alexis Sánchez on Canal 13 (free-to-air) and Chilevisión (pay TV).

Over in Ecuador, you can watch games on Ecuavisa (free-to-air) and The Football Channel (pay TV).
