French Open final 2024: where to watch around the world

Roland Garros is at a close. It’s Alcaraz v Zverev in the men’s final on Sunday, and Swiatek v Paolini in the women’s final on Saturday.

After two weeks of breathtaking tennis, the 2024 Roland Garros finals are here. On Saturday afternoon in Paris, Iga Swiatek will take on Jasmine Paolini in the women’s singles final. Swiatek is aiming to win her third French Open in a row, while it could be the first Grand Slam title for the Italian. In fact, it’s the first Grand Slam final appearance for Paolini too. Anything other than a Swiatek win will be an upset. Then on Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz will meet Alexander Zverev in the men’s singles final. That one guarantees a new Roland Garros winner, no matter what happens. Alcaraz is a two-time Grand Slam champion while Zverev is in his second Grand Slam final.

What’s been the path to the final like for the four men’s and women’s finalists? Swiatek beat Coco Gauff for the third year running—the final in 2022, the quarters in 2023, and the semis in 2023—though her toughest opponent was no doubt Naomi Osaka in the second round. Swiatek came very close to an early exit and had to save a match point. Paolini beat world number four Elena Rybakina in the semis—that was her only seeded opponent en route to the final.

Alcaraz beat the new world number one Jannik Sinner in five sets in the semis, which was only the Italian’s third loss in 2024. (Alcaraz can claim two of them.) Zverev had two five-set encounters in the third and fourth rounds before reversing his semi-final result from last year, sweeping past a stomach bug-riddled Casper Ruud and denying him a third successive final.
