This week, men’s tennis action takes us to Sweden, Germany and Switzerland with three simultaneous ATP 250 and ATP 500 clay court events.

Thanks to the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will be held at Roland-Garros, some of the top men’s tennis players switched from the grass courts (of Wimbledon) back to clay this week. The ATP Tour provided them with three options: the Bastad Open in Sweden, the Hamburg Open in Germany, or the Gstaad Open in Switzerland. (For sponsorship reasons, ATP Bastad is known as Nordea Open while ATP Gstaad is EFG Swiss Open.) Unlike Wimbledon—which was a Grand Slam with 2000 points for the winner—this week’s Hamburg Open is an ATP 500 event, while both the Bastad and Gstaad Open are ATP 250 events.

More importantly, who’s playing where? Twenty-two-time major winner and the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, is in the ATP Bastad event. He’s into the semi-finals in both the singles and doubles. French Open finalist Alexander Zverev is playing at home in the ATP Hamburg event—he’s also in the semi-finals. If he progresses to the final, he will meet either France’s Arthur Fils or Argentina’s Sebastian Baez. As for the remaining Gstaad Open, Stefanos Tsitsipas is the big draw. He’s also in the semi-finals, against Matteo Berrettini who seems to be slowly getting back to his best. All three tournaments—Hamburg, Bastad and Gstaad—will wrap up with the finals on Sunday, July 21, 2024.
