Wimbledon is back. Carlos Alcaraz is the new men’s defending champion at Wimbledon 2024, a first in 21 years for someone who’s not called Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, or Andy Murray. Recovering from a knee injury, Djokovic’s fitness is in question as he prepares to mount a bid and equal Federer’s eight Wimbledon titles. Amidst this all, we have a new world number one—and serious contender—in Jannik Sinner who’s chasing his first Wimbledon title. Over on the women’s side, it’s a question of whether Iga Świątek and Coco Gauff can translate their clay court form to grass. Former champion Elena Rybakina has her own health issues. And Ons Jabeur is after a third straight Wimbledon final (and maybe a win this time).

When is Wimbledon 2024?

Grand Slam grass court tennis kicks off on Monday, July 1. The first round of men’s and women’s singles—with 128 players in both sections—will take place on Monday and Tuesday, July 2.

The second round (with 64 players) is set for Wednesday, July 3 and Thursday, July 4, followed by the third round (of 32 players) slated for Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6.

The 16 who win will progress into the second week of SW19—the nickname for Wimbledon, thanks to its geographic postcode and location in southwest London.

The fourth round of men’s and women’s singles takes place on Sunday, July 7 and Monday, July 8. Then, we have the quarterfinals on Tuesday, July 9 and Wednesday, July 10.

Women’s singles semi-finals will be on Thursday, July 11 while the men’s will be on Friday, July 12. That leaves the women’s final on Saturday, July 13 and the men’s final on Sunday, July 14.

Wimbledon 2024 draw

Wondering who’s playing who? In the men’s singles draw, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Grigor Dimitrov, Tommy Paul, and Casper Ruud are in the same half. That means we can potentially have Sinner vs Medvedev and Alcaraz vs Ruud in the quarterfinals, and Sinner vs Alcaraz—a repeat of Roland Garros 2024—in the Wimbledon semi-finals.

The other half of the men’s draw has Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, Hubert Hurkacz, Alex de Minaur, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Taylor Fritz. This could potentially result in Djokovic vs Hurkacz and Zverev vs Rublev in the quarterfinals and Djokovic vs Zverev in the semi-finals. Here’s the full Wimbledon 2024 men’s singles draw PDF. It’s updated live as results come in.

Over in the women’s side, Iga Świątek, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabeur, Danielle Collins, Jelena Ostapenko and defending champion Markéta Vondroušová are all in the same half. That’s bonkers. We could potentially see Świątek vs Vondroušová and Rybakina vs Pegula in the quarterfinals.

The bottom half of the women’s singles draw has Coco Gauff, Jasmine Paolini, Qinwen Zheng, Maria Sakkari, and Victoria Azarenka. (It also had Aryna Sabalenka who withdrew on day one due to a shoulder injury.) It’s much lighter compared to the top half, with a Gauff vs Paolini quarterfinal likely the biggest-seeded match. Here’s the full Wimbledon 2024 women’s singles draw PDF. It’s updated live as results come in.
